Till the year 1948 the children in and around Manipal, had to walk all the way to Udupi for higher education. Realising this difficulty, Dr. T.M.A. Pai came forward to start a High School in Manipal. Accordingly on June 7, 1948, Manipal High School was started. The school thus started has been growing ever since with nation wide reputation.
From its very inception till 1953. Dr. Pai himself served the school as the correspondent. From 1954 to 2005 Sri T. Ramesh U Pai was our correspondent. After his death on 26-1-2005, Smt. Shanthi R Pai succeeded him. After her death in 2008, Mr. T.Sudhakar Pai is guiding us as the correspondent.
In 1959 English Medium classes were started in this school parallel to Kannada Medium classes. Later on the facility of opting Hindi or Sanskrit as the first language was also provided. Computers, Drawing and Tailoring classes are also conducted.
In 1969 Std. XI was introduced and the school was upgraded in to Higher Secondary School. In June 1972 this institution was further upgraded to Junior College with I and II PUC Classes. It was renamed as Manipal Pre-University College in 1986. The College Section offers Science, Commerce and Arts as optional groups.
MPUC Celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1999 and diamond jubilee in 2010 in a very grand manner. This institution dedicates itself to serve the noble cause of education, bearing in mind the multifarious needs and requirements, of the cosmopolitan community of Manipal as well as the progress and dynamic changes in the outlook of the society at large.
